When people think of Aruba they think of the Beach Boy's song and the beaches. It's also a desert climate and windy all the time with some unique things to explore!
Surrounded by a reef. If you love to scuba dive and/or find large piles of conch shells and salt mounds, then this is the place.
Beaches. There are beaches in the Bahamas. If you purely want the beach and don’t necessarily care about . . . everything else then this is the place. The best beach we’ve been to – is here. The Bahamas are made up of many islands and they all seem to have a character of their own, but they all have beaches.

Dominican Republic would feel very much at home in Latin America, culturally. It has some unique history with Columbus and some fancy resort getaways on the coast.
Quaint and quiet. The island seems to be set up as a perfect cruise stop. Many local villages, one big beach, a few resorts with a few adventures thrown in with a nice waterfall to jump off for those so inclined.
Everything we love about the Caribbean is found here on Guadeloupe. Beaches, waterfalls, canyoning, jungle, history, food, and culture. If we had to pick just one island to go to, this is it.
A few nice places to visit, but a little rough around the edges from an outside the resort perspective. Probably best visited actually staying at a resort in Negril, Montego Bay, or Ocho Rios. Best to fly in to Montego Bay airport.
The island twin of Guadeloupe, Martinique is a nice alternative if you can't make it to Guadeloupe. Beaches, jungle, history, and food make it worth a visit.
This is a great place to practice traveling abroad, without actually traveling abroad (from a US perspective). The island seems to be always recovering from some natural disaster, but that doesn't diminish its beauty or some of the amazing things one can do here.
A popular scuba diving destination and cruise stop, a surprising amount of activities and adventures can be found here.
Also known as St Barts or St Barths. This small island is filled with French food and culture and many beautiful beaches.
A fun combination of history, beaches, and a diversified economy not entirely reliant on tourism.
St Lucia has many options for activities outside the resort. It also has one of the most beautiful vistas in the Caribbean with the Pitons overlooking the bay and the village of Soufriere. (cover photo for this website.)
Two countries in one! The island is split between the French and the Dutch. Good beaches, good food, and typical cruise port shopping to be had along with a fun French fort with a view.
This island has been vying to become more mainstream tourism friendly in recent years.
You can skip Trinidad. Tobago has a pleasant mix of sleepy fishing towns, a few beaches, and some history.
Mainly a beach destination, with one of the best beaches in the world (Grace Bay Beach seen above) as voted by someone who's seen a lot of beaches.
